The main ingredients for this Easy Turkey Chili are:

  • Ground turkey
  • Tomato sauce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Can of beans of your choice
  • Green lentils
  • Spinach
  • White onion
  • plus spices and seasonings!

If you prefer to make this a vegetarian chili, opt for an additional can of beans instead of the ground turkey. You can also add a can of corn for extra sweetness and colour!

The mix of ground turkey and plant-based proteins maximize the protein content of this chili. You can use whatever beans or pulses you have on hand, as well as some cooked or canned green lentils. The combination of these pulses will also fill you up with plenty of fibre!

This Easy Turkey Chili is SO easy to whip up. It also makes a huge batch that you can keep in the fridge for the week, serve at a dinner party, or freeze for those chilly lazy nights in!

Easy Turkey Chili

Ingredients
 

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 680 ml can tomato sauce
  • 1 796 ml can diced tomatoes
  • 1 540 ml can beans of your choice (ex. six-bean mix)
  • 1 cup cooked green lentils, or corn
  • 1 package frozen spinach, thawed
  • 1/2 cup white onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp oregano, dried
  • 1 tbsp basil, dried
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes, (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a large pot, heat the olive oil on medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 3-4 minutes or until the onions are translucent.
  • To this, add the ground turkey and cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meat is browned.
  • Season with cumin.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, canned beans and lentils. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Mix in the spinach, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes.
  • Reduce the heat to low and allow the flavours to combine for 5-10 minutes.
  • Serve with cilantro or parsley, avocado or a dollop of sour cream and enjoy!
