Ingredients for Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts
Your time is precious so I wanted to make this recipe as simple as it could be. All you need to make the hot honey is:
- Honey
- Chili flakes
For the rest of the dish, you will need:
- Brussels sprouts
- Don’t forget to rinse and pat dry the brussels sprouts before preparing this dish.
- Olive oil
- You could also use any kind of oil that is mild in flavour and is appropriate for temperatures of 425F.
- Feta cheese
- You will love the salty flavour paired with the sweet and spicy hot honey! If needed, opt for a lactose-free feta cheese.
- Garlic powder, salt and pepper
How to Make Hot Honey
Hot honey is made from chili flakes and honey (sometimes also vinegar) and is a spicy twist on the sweet condiment. It has been impossible to find in my local stores, so I figured I just needed to make it myself. Once I learned how, I couldn’t believe how easy it was! It takes less than 5 minutes and you can make a big batch at once (like in this recipe) to keep for multiple uses.
- In a small saucepan, add ½ cup of honey and 2 tsp of chili flakes. If you can handle and enjoy spicier foods, you could use 1 tbsp of chili flakes.
- Bring this mixture to a boil and then keep it on the heat while you stir for 20-30 seconds.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the mixture into a glass jar. For a milder honey, strain out the chili flakes as you pour it into the jar. The longer the honey sits with the chili flakes in it, the spicier it will become.
- Seal and store until you’re ready to use it!
Once the hot honey has cooled and the brussels sprouts are roasted, it’s just a matter of assembling. Drizzle the honey on top of the veggies and sprinkle on some chunks of feta cheese. Serve this immediately so everything is nice and warm. Enjoy!
