Strawberry Lemonade Slushie Smoothie
When asked to partner with and create a recipe for the California Strawberry Commission I started thinking about summer snacks and treats. Not only is the weather slowly but surely improving, but what a better time than to focus on the bright and positive things?

This Strawberry Lemonade Slushie Smoothie provides fruit, vegetables and a fresh burst of flavour that will have you sipping happily all spring and summer. Instead of the traditional creaminess of a smoothie, I paired these fruits with coconut water to add to the lightness- hence the slushie texture. If you prefer to use milk, yogurt or a protein powder in this recipe, prepare for a flavour more similar to a creamsicle! Either way, you get the benefits of the many nutrients found within this beverage.
Speaking of health benefits, there has been a lot of talk going on in the food and nutrition world about immunity-boosting foods. Although there are not actually any specific foods that boost our immune function or protect us from illness, there are vitamins and nutrients that can support our immune system. Incorporating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and protein-rich foods into our eating routines is a beneficial way to support a strong immune system and healthy lifestyle.

Including a serving of California strawberries (about 8 strawberries or 140 grams) per day provides an excellent source of vitamin C and a source of fibre, among other nutrients. Thankfully, California strawberries are in peak season and readily available right now as well as when our local strawberries are out of season. Find organic and conventionally-grown strawberries from California at a grocery store that you feel comfortable visiting.
Enjoy this refreshing Strawberry Lemonade Slushie Smoothie for breakfast, lunch, as a snack or a sweet treat and stay safe and healthy!
