simple-summer-hamburgers

These homemade hamburgers have been on my mind lately for a number of reasons.

  1. With the weather changing and the heat rising, turning on the oven is just not what I want to be doing every night. Taking the cooking outside or even to the stove makes a huge difference in the general temperature of the house!
  2. This meal is super nostalgic for me- bringing it back to summer nights in our back yard with family. And since visiting family isn’t really an option these days, this will have to do for now!
  3. Who doesn’t love a simple, juicy, summertime burger?! It’s hard to beat.

So, fire up the grill, get your toppings ready and enjoy this memorable meal for summers to come!

Simple Summer Hamburgers

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup white onion, diced (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder, or 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 tsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and season with salt and pepper. Mix together well.
  • With a spoon or your hands, form 5-6 burger patties, using up all of the mixture.

If using a BBQ

  • Heat the grill to medium-high heat and cook the patties 3-4 minutes on each side. This will vary depending on your preferred doneness.

If using a stove

  • Bring a skillet or frying pan to medium-high heat and coat with 1 tbsp cooking oil.
  • Place the patties on the pan and make sure to leave some room so the pan is not crowded. You may have to do this in 2 batches.
  • Cook the burgers for 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked through.
  • Serve with your choice of toppings and enjoy!
