Simple Summer Hamburgers

These homemade hamburgers have been on my mind lately for a number of reasons.
- With the weather changing and the heat rising, turning on the oven is just not what I want to be doing every night. Taking the cooking outside or even to the stove makes a huge difference in the general temperature of the house!
- This meal is super nostalgic for me- bringing it back to summer nights in our back yard with family. And since visiting family isn’t really an option these days, this will have to do for now!
- Who doesn’t love a simple, juicy, summertime burger?! It’s hard to beat.
So, fire up the grill, get your toppings ready and enjoy this memorable meal for summers to come!

- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup white onion, diced (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder, or 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 2 tsp ketchup
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and season with salt and pepper. Mix together well.
- With a spoon or your hands, form 5-6 burger patties, using up all of the mixture.
If using a BBQ
- Heat the grill to medium-high heat and cook the patties 3-4 minutes on each side. This will vary depending on your preferred doneness.
If using a stove
- Bring a skillet or frying pan to medium-high heat and coat with 1 tbsp cooking oil.
- Place the patties on the pan and make sure to leave some room so the pan is not crowded. You may have to do this in 2 batches.
- Cook the burgers for 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked through.
- Serve with your choice of toppings and enjoy!
