Peanut Butter Banana Yogurt Bowl
This Peanut Butter Banana Yogurt Bowl is a delicious, protein-rich snack or dessert. It takes less than 5 minutes to make and will quickly become your go-to afternoon or late-night recipe!
Is it okay to have a late night snack?
If you’re looking for a new late night snack or dessert, this recipe hits the spot!. Whoever started the rumour that eating after 8pm is bad for us, was seriously misinformed (Oprah, I’m looking at you!). The truth is, there are considerations to make when it comes to eating later in the evening, such as the impact it may have on our sleep. But as a general rule, if you are hungry after dinner (or at any time) it’s important to listen to your body and honour your appetite, when possible.
The great thing about this yogurt bowl, besides it being absolutely delicious, is that it can help satisfy cravings AND keep you full without a major energy spike right before bed. The ingredients that are used provide a great source of protein, fibre and fat, which all play a role in managing blood sugar levels.
Ingredients for this Peanut Butter Banana Yogurt Bowl
All you need to make this Peanut Butter Banana Yogurt Bowl are these 6 simple ingredients.
- Greek yogurt
- I use plain Greek yogurt in this recipe so that it’s not too sweet, especially with the addition of chocolate chips, but you could also use a flavoured yogurt instead. Try it with vanilla or banana yogurt!
- As a dietitian, I like to recommend 2% Greek yogurt because it is a creamier consistency and the extra fat helps support our fullness and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (ie. vitamin A, D, E and K).
- Peanut butter
- You may choose to use a different nut butter like almond, cashew or hazelnut butter instead of peanut butter.
- If you want a nut-free version, use tahini instead!
- Banana
- Slice the banana into coins or chunks to make bite-sized pieces.
- Granola
- The purpose of the granola is to add a crunchy component. You can use your favourite store-bought granola or try this homemade Coconut Almond Granola recipe!
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Feel free to use as little or as many chocolate chips as you desire in this yogurt bowl!
- If you like milk or dark chocolate chips better than semi-sweet, you can use these instead.
- Cinnamon
- A little sprinkle of cinnamon rounds out the whole recipe and makes this yogurt bowl ultra comforting.
How to make a high protein yogurt bowl
Assembling this yogurt bowl is incredibly quick and easy. All you have to do is add the Greek yogurt, peanut butter and cinnamon to a bowl and mix well. Then add the sliced banana, granola and chocolate chips and mix gently. That’s it! You’re ready to enjoy it. If you are looking for some substitutions, check out the following variations of this recipe:
- Gluten-free version: Opt for gluten-free granola or use a mix of nuts and seeds instead of granola.
- Vegan version: Instead of Greek yogurt, use a vegan yogurt.
- Peanut-free version: Use almond butter, cashew butter or tahini instead of peanut butter.
