Espresso Smoothie
This Espresso Smoothie is a blend between a morning coffee and a nutritious breakfast. If you’re on the run in the morning, this is for you.
The idea for this recipe has been in my notes for well over a year and I finally got around to creating and sharing it! This Espresso Yourself Smoothie is inspired by all the cold cups of coffee that have been repeatedly reheated in the last year of working from home. It also pays tribute to the leftover coffee in the pot that ends up wasted down the drain. We may as well utilize the cold cup of joe by repurposing it into a delicious smoothie! And with this warm weather lending its way to the season of iced coffees, it’s the perfect time to try a fun twist on a classic.
Ingredients Needed:
Here is what you need to make this Espresso Smoothie:
- Coffee
- Banana
- I recommend using a frozen banana to make the smoothie creamy and cold, however, if you don’t have any available, a regular banana will work.
- Cauliflower
- I love incorporating vegetables into my smoothies when I can, especially when they don’t impact the flavour. Not only do you get some extra bulk with the frozen cauliflower, but it actually provides quite a bit of vitamin C too! That being said, if you’re not a fan of cauliflower, or just don’t have it available, feel free to use the equivalent amount of ice. The texture just may be a bit less creamy.
- Greek yogurt
- The yogurt adds a punch of protein and creaminess to the smoothie
- Milk
- Hemp seeds
- Not only are hemp seeds a great source of omega 3 fatty acids, they also provide protein and fibre!
- Cocoa powder
- Maple syrup
- The maple syrup adds an extra touch of sweetness but it is optional.
- Vanilla extract, cinnamon and salt

Make It Your Own
So, if you are looking for an energizing morning smoothie or a pick-me-up midday give this a try!
How about using decaf coffee and enjoying it as an afternoon or evening treat? Or devour it as a smoothie bowl, topped with my Coconut Almond Granola.
If you’re looking for an ultra protein-rich version, consider adding 1/2 – 1 scoop of protein powder. Chocolate, vanilla or plain flavours would all work well in this recipe. I recommend my clients purchase third-party tested protein powders. If you need help choosing a product that works well for you, take a read through my educational blog posts here and here.
Refreshing, tasty, nutritious and caffeinated. Espresso yourself in whatever way suits you best!
